Massara, who is 56 years old, has worked at AS Roma before. He was the sporting director here and later became the general secretary. After that, he moved to AC Milan as their sporting director from 2019 to 2023. He also held the same position at Rennes from June 2024 to May 2025.
Massara is taking over at a time when AS Roma is looking to improve. The team had a tough season, with two coaches being let go and the general manager leaving. The team also didn't meet its goals in the market. However, under new coach Claudio Ranieri, AS Roma has done well. They secured a spot in the Europa League with just one league defeat since mid-December.
AS Roma's new coach is Gian Piero Gasperini. He comes from Atalanta and will lead the team forward.
