A reported €30m transfer fee was offered by Sunderland, but Bologna were unwilling to sell the player at that price.

Lucumi's contract with Bologna runs until 2027, but negotiations over a potential extension have been ongoing since the end of last season.

As a result of the ongoing talks, Sunderland have decided to make another attempt to sign Lucumi in January.
