Gyokeres has joined Arsenal as the team's senior centre-forward, and Merino has filled in as a makeshift option in the previous season. Merino believes that Gyokeres will score many goals for the team.
"He's an amazing striker," Merino said. "He's strong, quick, and can threaten in the back of the line. These are the qualities we need in a striker."
Merino also praised Gyokeres' professionalism and humility. He said that Gyokeres is a humble and hardworking player who is always eager to learn and adapt to the team's principles.
"With every player in the squad, you have to adapt to the principles that the team have already and, at the same time, us as players have to adapt to the team-mate and the qualities and the capacities they have," Merino explained.
"Viktor is a good striker with his own tools, and he's going to be a massive player for us. We'll have to adapt to his qualities, try to find him in the right spots, and also for him, he'll have to adapt to our values, to our principles."
