Maresca stated that his team's performance was below par, saying, "In general, we were not good enough. When you're not good enough in the Premier League, you know the consequences can be negative. The second goal we conceded was a result of not being able to win, and it's essential that you don't lose.
"However, even with that, it's not a transition because a transition often involves being open or a one-on-one situation, but we had two players defending the central defenders and we didn't defend properly.
The first goal was scored from a throw-in, which is challenging to deal with when the opposing team brings multiple players into the box. Nevertheless, I think we were not good enough overall.
Maresca also noted that Chelsea had the same number of points as they did at this time last year, after eight games. He emphasized the need to improve and see where they stand in March, April, and May. "We need to improve many things and then decide where we are," he said.
Maresca also mentioned that his team struggled with creativity, creating few scoring opportunities apart from the goal they scored. He added that his players need to perform at their best and win key duels and second balls, especially against teams like Sunderland.
