The forward began his career in Spain with Atletico Madrid, having a loan spell with Porto before joining Wolves and helping them earn promotion from the Championship.

Andre Silva, 26, played for Penafiel in the Portuguese Second Division. He was with Penafiel since 2020, having joined from Porto. The brothers were travelling in a Lamborghini when the accident happened.

Local authorities say that the brothers died at about 00:30 local time on Thursday. Diogo Jota was married to his long-term partner Rute Cardoso, with whom he had three children, just last month.

Diogo Jota helped Liverpool win the 2024/25 Premier League title and also the Nations League with Portugal in June. The Portuguese Football Federation (FPT) has expressed its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Diogo and Andre Silva, as well as to Liverpool FC and FC Penafiel.

Porto, the club where both brothers spent time during their careers, has also released a statement expressing its shock and deep sorrow. Liverpool FC has requested the privacy of Diogo and Andre's family, friends, teammates, and club staff be respected as they try to come to terms with this unimaginable loss.
