The match began with both teams showing high energy, with Everton taking the lead in the early stages. Iliman Ndiaye caused problems for Newcastle down the right side, while Anthony Gordon's speculative effort was the only notable chance for the Magpies in the first 15 minutes.
Sandro Tonali started to control the game from midfield, and Everton's first shot on target came from Carlos Alcaraz's direct free-kick. James Garner's powerful drive brought out the best in Nick Pope, and Jordan Pickford had to make several impressive saves to keep his team in the game.
England's goalkeeper was called upon to stop Sven Botman's chances, and he also tipped over a header from Alcaraz as both teams searched for a breakthrough that didn't come before halftime.
After the break, Ndiaye's impressive run carved open the Newcastle midfield, and Everton continued to take the initiative. The tension in the stadium was palpable as the decibel levels rose.
Although Newcastle pushed hard, Everton held firm, and a wonderful Alcaraz header gave them the lead on 64 minutes. This seemed to give them an extra boost as they dug in against a barrage of Newcastle attacks.
The final 20 minutes saw Everton's box peppered with crosses from both wings, but they were unable to find the net, thanks in part to Pickford's heroics. Despite losing the game, they will celebrate UCL qualification thanks to Villa's failure to get a result at Old Trafford.
Everton ended their 2024/25 campaign on a high note with an 11th win of the season.
