Earlier this year, Mbappe tied Thierry Henry's record for the most goals scored for France at the age of 26. He achieved this milestone with a solo goal in the 82nd minute of France's 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over Ukraine.
Currently, Mbappe is in second place with 52 goals in 92 games, behind Olivier Giroud's record of 57 goals in 137 appearances. However, since Giroud has retired, Mbappe is now the only one who can break the record.
In a press conference, Mbappe expressed his confidence in breaking the record, saying that it's just a matter of time. He believes that he can score goals against any team and that every match is different.
"I think I'll beat (Giroud's record), but when, I don't know. Maybe tomorrow, who knows? Maybe later. It's something that will come naturally and I'll move on from there." Mbappe said.
Mbappe is five goals shy of Giroud's record, making it unlikely to be broken this week. However, he is still on track to surpass Giroud's record by the end of the year.
Mbappe's confidence in breaking the record is evident, and it's clear that he is well on his way to making history before his 27th birthday.
